Rock Partridge and Semi-collared Flycatcher Tour in Bulgaria

Rock Partridge Habitat in Pirin Mountains by Dimiter Georgiev

This tour targets two of the most sought-after species of birds in Europe. There will be nice encounters with other interesting species too. The tour is run in the region of Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, to where there is a good selection of convenient flights.

Day 1

Arrival in Sofia and check-in for three nights in the area. If time allows we will visit a close location for the Semi-collared Flycatcher.

Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4

Each day we will start very early in the morning, in order to be at the Rock Partridge sites in time, at down. Depending on the weather conditions, to which this species is very sensitive, we will be searching for the birds both in the mornings and in the late afternoons. Meanwhile we will visit several very reliable breeding sites of the Semi-collared Flycatcher.

Apart from the main target birds, on this trip we have excellent chances to see Golden Eagle, Short-toed Eagle, Northern Goshawk, Black Woodpecker, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Syrian Woodpecker, Ring Ouzel (ssp. alpestris), Water Pipit, Eurasian Crag Martin, Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush, Red-rumped Swallow, Alpine Chough, Spotted Nutcracker, Willow Tit, Sombre Tit, Common Firecrest, Goldcrest, Rock Bunting, etc.

On Day 4 we will finish the tour in the afternoon or early evening, depending on the return flights of the tour participants.

To reach the Rock Partridge spots it may take about 45 min walking on flat or fairly steep dirt roads and trails.
